Meet Kheyal
I am an award-winning stop motion animator currently receiving my MFA in Animation at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I received my MA in Animation as an international Fulbright Scholar and my BA in Film and Media and History. I am also a graduate of the Aardman Academy, with certificates in character animation and model making. I have extensive experience in stop motion animation, having directed and animated over 10 stop motion short films in the past four years, working both on my own and with a variety of collaborators. I am proficient in Dragonframe and am familiar with rigging setups, camera work, lighting for stop motion, and editing for stop motion. I am also a live action filmmaker and a musician, and I often bring the two together to create imaginative and exciting music videos.
My mission is to bring social justice work to animation by shining a light on perspectives and stories that are overlooked in animated media. I create films that tell stories about the diverse experiences of a global audience, often drawing from my own experience as a Canadian-born Indo-Trinidadian and Indian woman living in America. My films have garnered success on the festival circuit, as I am the winner of the Ray Harryhausen Best Student Film Award, a Disney Women in Film Award, two Women in Film and Television Atlanta scholarships, as well as numerous selections at other international festivals.
